GREENSBORO, NC (August 18, 2026) - The Greensboro Police Department's Traffic Safety Unit will conduct its annual "Operation School Watch" traffic safety initiative from Monday, August 24, through Friday, September 4, 2026.
The two-week initiative, supported by both the Operational Support and Special Operations Divisions as well as other GPD officers, will focus on increasing safety in and around school zones as students return for the 2026-2027 school year.
Officers will conduct enforcement operations throughout Greensboro targeting speeding, texting and driving, seatbelt violations, pedestrian crosswalk violations, graduated driving violations, and school bus stop-arm violations. Officers will use marked and unmarked vehicles, motorcycles, and spotter strategies while monitoring school zones and bus routes.
Beginning immediately, electronic message boards will be placed throughout school zones to remind motorists that school is returning and to slow down and remain alert.
Motorists are encouraged to allow extra travel time, watch for students and pedestrians, obey posted speed limits, and always stop for school buses displaying their red lights and stop arms.
This marks the 11th year of Operation School Watch, with motorists expected to see an increased law enforcement presence in and around Greensboro school zones throughout the school year.
Together, we can help keep Greensboro's students safe.
