Alexandria Police Department Releases Critical Incident Community Briefing of Officer-Involved Shooting on Maris Avenue

Media Advisory: News Conference

What: The Alexandria Police Department (APD) will be releasing a Critical Incident Community Briefing (CICB) video providing information concerning the facts related to the officer-involved shooting that occurred on August 12, 2024, as part of the Department's commitment to maintaining community trust through transparency.

When: Thursday, October 24, 2024 - 2 p.m.

Where: Alexandria Police Department, 3600 Wheeler Avenue

Who: Raul Pedroso, Interim Chief of Police, Alexandria Police Department

Background: Consistent with the APD policy of releasing body-worn camera footage related to critical incidents, the Department will provide a CICB to our community during the news conference. Interim Chief of Police, Raul Pedroso will discuss the incident, review the video with members of the media, and answer questions.

The CICB may include maps, excerpts of 9-1-1 calls, body-worn camera footage, and evidence photos to provide the community a better understanding of the law enforcement response and the outcome of the incident including explanations of the investigative process.

The goal of releasing a CICB is to increase transparency and trust as the APD continues to work with various stakeholders to provide a clear and unbiased account of critical incidents or officer-involved shootings to our community.
