Fedorchak helps pass SAVE America Act

Washington, D.C. - Congresswoman Julie Fedorchak (R-ND) today voted in favor of legislation she cosponsored, the SAVE America Act. This bill, which passed the House 218-213, requires photo ID for federal elections and builds on the SAVE Act's proof-of-citizenship requirement for voter registration.

"Requiring a photo ID that proves U.S. citizenship to vote in federal elections will strengthen election integrity across the country and restore trust," Fedorchak said. "The SAVE America Act builds on the same principles that have worked in our state for years. North Dakota already requires voters to present valid identification confirming their name, current residential address, and date of birth. Nothing in this bill changes how elections are run in North Dakota, or how state elections are run in any state. It simply brings a dose of North Dakota common sense to elections around the country."

Importantly, North Dakota maintains a unique but effective voting system that does not require voter registration. Instead, North Dakota identifies and updates eligible voters through various state databases and requires a valid I.D. for voting, which ensures that only U.S. citizens who are eligible to vote in North Dakota participate in elections. North Dakota's election standards exceed the National Voter Registration Actstandards and are a gold standard for efficient and secure elections.

In April 2025, Fedorchak voted in favorof the SAVE Act, which mandates uniform proof of U.S. citizenship for voter registration in federal elections. The SAVE America Act builds on the original SAVE Actby adding a commonsense voter ID requirement while preserving safeguards that confirm only U.S. citizens are registered to vote in federal elections.

The SAVE America Actwould protect and preserve the right of American citizens to vote by:

  • Requiring individuals to present an eligible photo identification document before voting. (New provision)

  • Requiring states to obtain proof of citizenship - in person - when registering an individual to vote.(From original SAVE Act)

  • Requiring states to remove non-citizens from existing voter rolls. (From original SAVE Act)
