National Film Board of Canada (NFB) Commissioner Suzanne Guèvremont was named today to The Hollywood Reporter's 2026 Canadian Women in Power List, honouring women who are helping to shape the future of the country's film, television and music industries.

With a background in education and innovation in digital media, and strong ties to the country's cultural sector, Ms. Guèvremont is leading a revitalization of the NFB at a critical time. Under her leadership, Canada's public film producer and distributor is focused on authentic Canadian stories, mentoring emerging creators and deepening its engagement with young audiences.

Guèvremont will be honoured alongside her peers at the third annual Women in Entertainment Canada Summit and Awards, May 28, 2026, at the Ritz-Carlton Toronto.

"While I'm honoured by this recognition, it reflects the extraordinary talent and dedication of people across the NFB who are creating and sharing bold new works, including Chris Lavis and Maciek Szczerbowski's brilliant Oscar-winning animated short The Girl Who Cried Pearls. To me, these honours are another sign of the progress we're making in nurturing diverse storytelling, strengthening Canada's leadership in audiovisual innovation and bringing Canadians together through works that spark national dialogue," said Suzanne Guèvremont, Government Film Commissioner and NFB Chairperson.

This latest recognition from The Hollywood Reporter follows Ms. Guèvremont's selection last fall to THR's Canada 25, its inaugural list of top decision makers. Announced on September 3, 2025, the recognition highlighted her leadership and impact on Canada's film sector.

The third woman and first francophone woman to serve as Government Film Commissioner and Chairperson of the NFB, Suzanne Guèvremont has more than 25 years' management experience in the higher education, culture and technology sectors. From 1999 to 2022, she was Director of Montreal's École des arts numériques, de l'animation et du design (NAD-UQAC), which under her leadership became a globally recognized university school of animation and digital arts. Ms. Guèvremont has served on a number of boards of national organizations, including CBC/Radio-Canada and the Bell Fund, as well as Quebec's Société de développement des entreprises culturelles (SODEC).
