UNESCO initiated a strategic development process in early 2025 to strengthen the Global MIL Alliance . The meeting provided a space to present the results of global consultations, redefine priorities, reinforce governance structures, and reaffirm members' commitment to joint MIL action.
The new Strategic Action Plan-serving as the Alliance's main operational framework-was officially adopted, alongside the announcement of the upcoming Global Board election process. The Board will comprise 10 regional representatives, 3 academic and research representatives, and 5 specialist representatives. All Alliance members are invited to apply by 23 November 2025, with voting scheduled from 28 November to 20 December 2025. The first Global Board will be formally announced in January 2026.
In the months leading up to the event, a new digital platform was launched, providing members with a dynamic space for application management, networking, information sharing, and collaboration. Since its rollout, members have actively benefited from its features, including the membership directory, knowledge hub, and interactive communication tools, which are fostering stronger connections and engagement across the Alliance.
