This fall, the Eugene McDermott Scholars Program at The University of Texas at Dallas welcomed 18 new scholars as its 2025 class.
The McDermott program provides 11 semesters of financial support and a comprehensive, mentored cohort experience focused on learning, leading and serving, while scholars earn an undergraduate degree at UT Dallas.
Both in and beyond the classroom, scholars contribute actively on campus and in the broader community, including through a summer of service in the Dallas area.
"We're delighted to welcome this class. These newest scholars have demonstrated excellence in academic achievement, leadership and service. It's a privilege to support their continued development and contributions. We look forward to seeing their positive impact as they uphold the McDermott legacy," said Reena Schellenberg, Hobson Wildenthal Chair and director of the McDermott Student Programs.
This year's cohort features 13 students from Texas, two from Idaho, one from Arkansas, one from Bangladesh, and one from Vietnam. The students joined 53 other scholars already at UT Dallas and the more than 365 scholars who preceded them. Applications for the 2026 class are now open.
The program was made possible by a $32 million gift from Margaret McDermott, wife of Eugene McDermott, one of the co-founders of Texas Instruments (TI). Eugene McDermott and two TI co-founders, Cecil Green and J. Erik Jonsson, founded the research institution that joined the UT System in 1969.
