One of the key delivery partners for Knowsley Council's Be the Change project attracted over 1,000 attendees to their inaugural boxing exhibition.
Stalker's Boxing Academy in Huyton Village staged their first amateur boxing show on 8 June at Knowsley Leisure and Culture Park, with dozens of children and young people competing.
The exhibition was sponsored by Be the Change, a unique initiative that aims to highlight the positive opportunities open to women and girls in the Borough, encouraging them to consider their own future potential and steer them away from those involved in serious and organised crime.
As part of Be the Change, Stalker's Boxing Academy has been providing boxing training to hundreds of young people in the Borough, promoting the ethos of highlighting what people can be, rather than what they shouldn't be, and encouraging them to fulfil their potential.
Professional boxers including Josh Padley attended the exhibition to show their support, for what promises to be the first of many community-focussed amateur boxing shows.
Cllr Graham Morgan, Leader of Knowsley Council, was also in attendance and received recognition for the Council's support for the community boxing academy.
Cllr Morgan said: "This event was so much more than a boxing exhibition. It was a powerful celebration of community engagement, youth development and the transformative potential of sport. The huge turnout underscores the community's support for the work Stalker's Gym are doing and the impact the Be the Change project is already having in our communities."
Tom Stalker, who runs Stalker's Gym, said: "Through boxing and as part of the Be the Change project we want to provide opportunities to children and young people, encouraging them to think about what they can be and what they can achieve. It has already been an incredible journey for our boxing academy and we were delighted with the success of our first show. This is just the beginning for us and for all the young people taking part."
