Silver Spring, Md. (April 21, 2024) - The Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) was selected by AAA - The Auto Club Group (ACG), as part of its Adopt-A-Charity program. Through this program, ACG donated $50,000 to support AZA, the AZA SAFE: Saving Animals From Extinction® program, and 16 AZA-accredited zoos and aquariums within the organization's 14-state footprint.
"Adopt-A-Charity is meant to make local impacts across the communities in our footprint, promote volunteerism, and represent the passions of our employees," said Daniel C. Steeh, Director of Sustainability for AAA - The Auto Club Group. "ACG is proud to support AZA and focus on conservation, education and volunteerism within the zoo and aquarium community."
In addition to funding, AAA-ACG's employees are given the opportunity to volunteer at the designated zoos and aquariums throughout the year. Volunteer duties and timeframes will vary by facility and volunteer interests.
"We are incredibly grateful to The Auto Club Group for their support and focus on sustainability and education. Our AZA members represent the global gold standard in animal care and wellbeing, and are leaders in the conservation of wildlife and wild places. Our missions are well-aligned," said Dan Ashe, president and CEO of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. "Each and every day, docents play a vital role in the zoo and aquarium community. AAA-ACG's passionate volunteers will be a wonderful addition to the AZA-accredited facilities included in the program."
