Today, I am pleased to welcome employees from Transport Canada's Aircraft Services Directorate (ASD) to the Canadian Coast Guard (CCG).

The integration of ASD is an important milestone in strengthening our operational capabilities, a key reason behind our move to the Department of National Defence, just over 6 months ago. Having our own aviation services enhances the CCG's ability to deliver on the vital work Canadians rely on every day, including marine safety, search and rescue, icebreaking, and environmental response.

The transition begins today, following the Order in Council and will take place through a phased, coordinated approach. During this time, both organizations will continue to deliver the same core services without interruption. Transport Canada will continue to maintain oversight of aviation regulations and the National Aerial Surveillance Program, while we work together to integrate people, assets, and expertise. ASD will be part of the CCG Shipbuilding and Materiel Sector, with Director General ASD Andy Cook reporting to Deputy Commissioner Robb Wight.

ASD's aviation capabilities will reinforce the CCG's aerial fleet and support upcoming security work under the Strengthening Canada's Immigration System and Borders Act. Bringing these capabilities together will strengthen our collective capacity to safeguard Canada and respond effectively to challenges ahead.

I had the opportunity to work with ASD when I was the Senior Assistant Deputy Minister, Safety and Security, at Transport Canada from 2019-2022,and can speak to the expertise and dedication of this group.

To our new ASD colleagues: welcome. Your skills and experience are valued, and I am confident you will make a meaningful difference in our shared mission.

To all CCG colleagues: thank you for the openness, collaboration, and support you continue to show during this period of change.

We are planning a hybrid event live from the ASD base at the hanger at the Ottawa International Airport to welcome ASD in style.

For more information, I invite you to read the dedicated transition webpage which includes questions and answers, speak with your managers, and support one another as we move forward together.

As someone who has only recently joined the Canadian Coast Guard myself, I am proud to be at the helm of this organization at such a pivotal moment. Welcoming new colleagues, strengthening our capabilities, and building our future together is work I am honoured to lead. I look forward to the journey ahead.

Kevin Brosseau
Commissioner
