Fact Check: Trump’s Billionaire-First Tax Cuts Are 10 TIMES More Expensive Than Permanently Extending ACA Tax Credits Arrow

Estimates show that Trump's billionaire-first budget bill tax cut costs more than 10 times as much as it would to extend expanded ACA premium tax credits. Because of Republicans' refusal to extend the tax credits, working families will pay an additional $1,016, on average, in premiums next year - more than doubling what the average family pays currently.

Trump's 'signature achievement' is the largest wealth transfer from the working and middle class to the ultra-rich: the richest 1% of Americans alone will benefit more than the bottom 80% of Americans, and for every millionaire who gets an $80,000 tax cut, four Americans will lose health care. Under Trump, the rich are getting even richer while working families are getting thrown under the bus.

In response, DNC Communications Director Rosemary Boeglin released the following statement:

"The betrayal of Americans couldn't be more brazen: Trump is selling out working and middle-class families - all so he can hand out massive tax cuts to the ultra-rich. He already gutted Medicaid, and now, if Republicans get their way, 22 million Americans will see their health insurance premiums skyrocket next year by an average of 114%. Trump's billionaire-first budget bill tax cut costs more than 10 TIMES as much as it would to extend expanded ACA premium tax credits - proof that his agenda is all about taking from working Americans to give to the 1%. Democrats are fighting to protect health care, lower costs, and avert the government shutdown."

Trump's "billionaire-first" budget bill cut $1 trillion from Medicaid - the largest health care cut in history - all while handing out tax breaks to the ultra-rich. Now, crucial ACA subsidies are set to expire, so Democrats introduced a common-sense proposal to reverse Trump's Medicaid cuts, extend ACA subsidies, and keep the government open - and Republicans rejected it to satisfy Trump.
