AIA Sends Letter to Secretary of Defense Hegseth Encouraging Acquisition Reforms

Arlington, Va. - Aerospace Industries Association (AIA) President and CEO Eric Fanning today sent a letter to Secretary of Defense Hegseth, applauding the Department of Defense's efforts to eliminate unnecessary regulations and promote expedited and streamlined acquisitions. In the letter, Fanning cited specific, burdensome requirements that should be revised or removed.

"AIA has long been an advocate of reducing redundant and burdensome regulations that slow the acquisition process, increase barriers to entry, and inject risk into the defense industrial base. A flexible and agile acquisition system is required to deliver the latest technology and best-in-class capabilities to the warfighter," Fanning said in a statement. "AIA applauds Secretary Hegseth's renewed focus on removing burdensome overregulation and streamlining the defense acquisition process. We stand ready to partner with the Department of Defense as they work to equip the warfighter, deter our adversaries, and defend our nation."

Among the top recommendations for review were cybersecurity requirements, cost accounting standards (CAS), commercial procurement processes, independent research and development oversight, and several other burdensome requirements.
