NGA Summer Meeting Begins in Oklahoma City

OKLAHOMA CITY - The National Governors Association (NGA) Summer Meeting is underway in Oklahoma City. The bipartisan event welcomes governors from across the country to collaborate on policy solutions for priorities like AI, education, economic development, infrastructure, affordability and restoring dignity to politics.

"I'm honored to welcome governors from across the nation to Oklahoma for the National Governors Association Summer Meeting," said NGA Chair Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt. "The American Dream is alive and well here in Oklahoma, and I'm so excited to show my fellow Governors the special thing we have going on here. America needs the kind of leadership that Governors are providing, and it'll be great to spend the weekend with them here in my home state."

"While Washington D.C. is consumed by gridlock and division, people are looking for common sense leaders who are focused on the issues that actually affect their lives - and governors are stepping up to meet that moment," said NGA Vice Chair Maryland Gov. Moore. "When governors get together we show that the government can still work and bipartisan leadership delivers. Together, we deliver real results for our states and the communities that need it most."

"In a time when the country is searching for steady hands and real results, governors are delivering. Whether it's affordable housing, balanced budgets, education innovation, infrastructure development or preparing workers for AI, governors are confronting challenges head-on, and that will be on full display at NGA this week."

The multi-day event kicked off today with a meeting of the Council of Governors, the 10-member federally established body instituted to work with federal officials to address issues relating to the National Guard, national security, homeland defense, and disaster preparedness, response, and recovery. The governors met with federal leaders representing the National Guard Bureau, Federal Emergency Management Agency and Defense Department on topics including: strategic guidelines for the Defense Fiscal Year 2027 Program Build, state- federal coordination and consultation on disaster response, National Guard organizational updates, and state-federal coordination on the domestic threat from Unmanned Aircraft Systems.

On Friday, Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt, Maryland Gov. Wes Moore and governors from both sides of the aisle will sit down with NBC News' Kristen Welker for a Bipartisan Governors Town Hall. Maryland Gov. Wes Moore and Utah Gov. Spencer Cox will join former RAISE US co-founders former U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo and former Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb for a conversation on AI and the Future of Work. Later, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz will join governors for a fireside chat on health priorities.

On Saturday, outgoing Govs. Laura Kelly (Kansas), Tim Walz (Minnesota), Kevin Stitt (Oklahoma) and Mark Gordon (Wyoming) will share reflections on public service.

To close out the meeting, incoming NGA Chair Maryland Gov. Wes Moore will launch his Chair's Campaign in a keynote address and panel discussion.
