Council to consider ordinance for health and welfare of City and more March 24

In an effort to protect the community's health and welfare, the City Council on Tuesday, March 24 will consider an ordinance to prohibit the sale and distribution of kratom products in Mission Viejo.

The business portion of the meeting starts at 6 pm in the Council Chamber at 200 Civic Center.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has identified products containing kratom as having opioid-like characteristics that pose a threat to the health and safety of the public. Local cities like Dana Point, Newport Beach, Oceanside and San Diego have already implemented such measures.

In other business, the Council will consider authorizing staff to advertise for bids for the Sierra Recreation Center pool rehabilitation project. The proposal would entail replastering the pool and replacing the aging pool and spa mechanical equipment.

For their efforts in the community, the Council will issue proclamations to the Mission Viejo Rotary Club and Pop Warner football and cheer program.

The Council will also consider approving an application from the Mission Viejo Activities Committee for the annual Fourth of July Community Street Faire.

Meetings are streamed live on the City's website and air on Cox Channel 30 and AT&T U-Verse Channel 99. Residents are encouraged to sign up for the City's eNewsletter and follow the City's official social media sites for the most accurate, up-to-date information.
