Strike vote in Montreal East

On Tuesday, the 50 blue-collar workers employed by the municipality of Montreal East voted unanimously in favour of resorting to pressure tactics on the employer-tactics that could include an unlimited general strike.

"The main issues that remain unresolved are wages, seniority, working conditions, schedules and outsourcing," explained Jean-Pierre Lauzon, president of CUPE 301, the union representing Montreal's blue-collar workers.

The collective agreement expired on December 31, 2022. The parties have been at the bargaining table since December 2024 due to a year-long mediation on working conditions.

"Talks are ongoing, but we hope to apply a little pressure on the employer to negotiate a good contract for our members," said Lauzon.
