The City Council on Tuesday, September 9 will consider a traffic improvement project as well as a plan to celebrate our rich history.
The business portion of the meeting starts at 6 pm in the Council Chamber at 200 Civic Center.
Council Members will consider giving City staff the green light to advertise for construction bids for the Marguerite Parkway traffic signal synchronization project. Traffic signal synchronization offers benefits such as reduced travel times, decreased fuel consumption, and lower pollutant emissions by allowing large groups of vehicles to pass through multiple intersections with fewer stops.
The Council will also consider approving the design for a four-sided obelisk commemorating the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The design elements represent significant moments in our country's 250-year history as well as the great natural beauty of Mission Viejo, California, and the United States. The Mission Viejo chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution has partnered to fund the project, which will be installed in the center of the hedge maze on the Oso Creek Trail. The design has already been approved by the City's Cultural Arts and Heritage Committees as well as the Community Services Commission.
During the presentation portion of the meeting, September will be proclaimed as Hunger Action Month to bring attention to food insecurity in the community and enlist the public in the movement to end hunger by taking action - including volunteering, donating, and advocating - to address food insecurity.
A second presentation will feature representatives from Vocational Visions, a local organization that strives to empower adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities through work, learning and community.
City Council meetings are streamed live on the City's website and air on Cox Channel 30 and AT&T U-Verse Channel 99. Residents are encouraged to sign up for the City's eNewsletter and follow the City's official social media sites for the most accurate, up-to-date information.
