McClellan Statement on House Passage of Iran War Powers Resolution

Washington, D.C. - Today, Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan (VA-04) issued the following statement after House passage of the Iran War Powers Resolution, a bipartisan measure to curb the Trump Administration's major military campaign in Iran:

"Today marks 95 days since the Trump Administration first dragged us into this reckless war of choice in Iran. 95 days of Americans paying the price at the gas pump. 95 days of U.S. servicemembers unnecessarily put in harm's way. 95 days of military families facing uncertainty about the safety of their loved ones.

"Only Congress has the power to declare war, yet we've found ourselves entangled in a protracted military conflict in Iran with no evidence of an imminent threat and no clear long-term strategy - all because Congressional Republicans continued to enable this President and his disastrous agenda. This long-overdue vote comes at a time when the Trump Administration has continually hurt our leadership on the global stage, created instability abroad and driven up costs for the American people. I voted yes to end this reckless war, bring our servicemembers home, end this senseless bloodshed, protect our national security interests, defend the Constitution and put a check on this Administration.

"President Trump must bring our servicemembers home and reprioritize the American people, not forever wars that are overwhelmingly unpopular and waste billions in taxpayer dollars."
