WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Mike Rounds (R-S.D.) today announced that he has nominated Riley and Emily Krause of Brandt for the 2025 Angels in Adoption award, presented by the Congressional Coalition on Adoption (CCAI).
The Krauses live on a farm near Brandt, with Riley running the farm and Emily working as an elementary school teacher. The Krauses fostered eight children before receiving a call on November 4, 2020, asking them to take in a baby girl who had just been born with hip dysplasia and was very premature, in Huron.
Livia Catherine was officially adopted into the Krause family at just over one year old. She is now a happy, healthy five-year-old. Livia's hip dysplasia has healed completely and she is now keeping up with her peers. Emily and Riley continue to foster children and are currently working toward their second adoption.
"I'm pleased to nominate Riley and Emily for this year's Angels in Adoption Award," said Rounds. "Foster parents and adoptive parents are a gift from God. The Krause family has opened their home to fourteen foster children, with some staying for a few days and others for months. Emily and Riley have welcomed all of these children with open arms, showing them love and care when they need it most."
"We are so grateful to have been nominated for this award in South Dakota," said the Krause family. "We are incredibly glad we carried out God's plan to place Livy in her forever home and eagerly await an opportunity to add more children."
