Subject to AS 38.05.850, the Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Division of Mining, Land and Water (DMLW), Southeast Regional Office (SERO) has received an application for the following:
APPLICANT: City and Borough of Juneau
PROJECT NAME: ADL 109508
GEOGRAPHIC LOCATION:
Multiple locations located on banks of the Mendenhall River in Juneau, Alaska, near or adjacent to properties along:
PROPERTY DESCRIPTION:
C040S065E24&25 and C040S066E18&19; Township 40 South, Range 65 East, Sections 24 and 25; Township 40 South, Range 66 East, Sections 18 and 19, Copper River Meridian; all locations are within state-issued easement ADL 109338.
REQUESTED ACTIVITY:
DMLW received an application from the City and Borough of Juneau ("CBJ" or "applicant") on March 21st, 2026, for the installation of riprap armored rock for riverbank stabilization and erosion control along the banks of the Mendenhall River. The proposed work will add additional riprap to existing riprap structures. Additionally, the applicant requests to add new riprap to sections of bank that do not currently have any armoring. Class III riprap will be used to construct new sections of armoring and add additional rock on top of existing armored banks.
The following standard construction equipment will be used and not limited to backhoes, excavators, skid loaders, dump trucks, pickup trucks, and cranes. Organics to be encountered at the project sites include but are not limited to stumps, logs, sand, dirt, mud, and rock. Additional backfill materials include shot rock, gravel, and sand.
Under Resolution of the City and Borough of Juneau, Alaska Serial No. 3073, CBJ is granted access through upland property owners to access state land to conduct work on portions of state-owned land along banks of the Mendenhall River.
