Castillo de San Marcos and Fort Matanzas National Monuments Welcome New Superintendent

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - The National Park Service has selected Angelita Alvino as the new superintendent of Castillo de San Marcos and Fort Matanzas National Monuments. Alvino has served as superintendent of the national parks of St. Croix for nearly five years and brings more than 25 years of NPS experience. She started her official role as superintendent on Aug. 23.

"It is a tremendous honor to serve as superintendent of Castillo de San Marcos, one of the National Park Service's most iconic and historically significant parks," said Superintendent Angelita Alvino. "Returning to St. Augustine-where my family and I previously made so many wonderful memories during my time as the park's administrative officer-makes this opportunity especially meaningful. I look forward to building on the park's remarkable legacy while creating new memories with the community and my family."

Originally from Puerto Rico, Alvino grew up visiting the forts in Old San Juan. She is a second-generation NPS employee, following in her mother's footsteps. Alvino has worked at parks in Florida, the Virgin Islands, Georgia and Massachusetts.

Alvino is known for building strong relationships and leading with integrity, transparency and respect. She invests in people and works collaboratively with employees, partners and the community to create the foundation for long-term success.

Alvino was elected as an Emerging Leader to represent the Southeast Region at the National Park Service Leadership Summit in 2008 and at the Southeast Regional Leadership Conference in 2010. She is currently enrolled in the Senior Executive Development Program.

Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with family, exploring the outdoors, baking, visiting new places and filling her life with new experiences. She will be relocating to St. Augustine with her husband.
