Former Harvest Middle School Property Acquisition Final, Community Outreach Coming Soon

The City of Napa has officially closed on the purchase of the former Harvest Middle School property, located at 2447 Old Sonoma Road, marking a major milestone in expanding local recreational opportunities. Following a thorough due diligence process, the City now assumes full ownership of the 26.6-acre site, acquired for $25 million from the Napa Valley Unified School District. Backed in part by Measure G funds, the City will begin interim operations on January 2, 2026, ensuring the site remains active and accessible while a long-term vision-shaped by community input-is developed.

"With a site that holds such exciting potential to reshape recreation in Napa, the path forward must be transparent and collaborative," said Mayor Scott Sedgley. "We are approaching this project with a commitment to inclusivity, ensuring the outcome aligns with our previously identified Council Focus Area of Parks and Community Spaces and the City's core values."

City staff have identified 17 community groups and organizations that currently hold rental agreements for the site, collectively accounting for 2,500 hours of gym and field space usage annually. To maintain continuity for local athletes and residents, the City is working with these groups to honor facility reservations through June 30, 2026. Residents can expect continued access to Playground Fantástico, as well as the surrounding open spaces.

"With so many groups utilizing this space, we know the Harvest property is already a recreational hub," said City Manager Steve Potter. "We are committed to maintaining that access and ensuring that the community can keep playing, practicing and gathering without interruption."

To involve residents in shaping the vision for Harvest, the City is undertaking a multiphase community engagement process. This effort includes a needs assessment, bilingual town hall meetings and stakeholder focus groups to help inform the site's development, which may eventually feature amenities such as a pool/aquatic center, sports fields and more.

Moving forward, community engagement will be a key part of the planning process, and residents are encouraged to stay tuned for upcoming opportunities to share their ideas and help shape the future of this important public space.
