NYC DOT Alerts Motorists of Upcoming Milling and Paving Work on the Queens-Bound Brooklyn Queens Expressway (BQE) From Atlantic Avenue to the Brooklyn Bridge

Milling Commences Monday Evening, June 16, and Is Scheduled To Run Until Tuesday, June 24, Leaving Only One Lane Available From 11 P.M. to 5 A.M. During That Period

Paving Will Begin in Early July Once the Corridor Is Milled and NYC DOT Performs Necessary Concrete Deck Work

Motorists Are Encouraged To Avoid the Roadway During These Times

NEW YORK - New York City Department of Transportation (NYC DOT) Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez today announced that the agency will begin milling work early next week on the Queens-bound section of the BQE on the segment from Atlantic Avenue to the Brooklyn Bridge. The work is planned for Monday evening, June 16, through Tuesday, June 24, on weeknights from 11 P.M. to 5 A.M., and will reduce Queens-bound traffic to one lane. No work will occur on Thursday, June 19, in observance of Juneteenth.

"The BQE is one of the most heavily travelled roadways in our network and it too should benefit from the Adams administration's and NYC DOT's commitment to keeping our streets in a state of good repair," said NYC DOT Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez. "We thank New Yorkers in advance for their patience as we perform this critical paving and concrete deck work."

The milling work is expected to take five weeknights, and after NYC DOT Bridges completes the concrete deck work it is expected the paving component will take four weeknights. The entire stretch is 2.85 lane miles in the Queens-bound direction.

The focus on road resurfacing is a hallmark of the Adams administration. Earlier this year, Mayor Adams and NYC DOT announced a significant drop in the pothole complaints in the first three years of the administration from the first three years of the previous administration, the result of the Adams administration's sustained commitment to resurfacing an average of nearly 1,200 miles of lane miles in each fiscal year. The agency is also filling potholes at a record speed, with most potholes filled within two days.

NYC DOT will send out additional notification as the milling work progresses, and also ahead of the July paving work.
