Lane Closures and Block Closures on El Camino Real in Burlingame throughout January

Lane Closures and Block Closures on El Camino Real in Burlingame throughout January

Published: Jan 06, 2026

San Mateo County ― Caltrans crews will close a section of El Camino Real between Rosedale Ave. and Grove Ave. in Burlingame to perform tree removals from Thursday, January 8 until Friday, January 16, 2026. The section of roadway will be closed from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. every weekday.

Residents, business owners, and customers may access the road but should allow a few minutes so that construction crews can make the area safe for passage.

In addition, lanes will be closed along El Camino Real between Peninsula Ave. and Grove Ave. during the month of January so that crews can identify underground utilities. This work is often referred to as "potholing". Potholing work requires the closure of two lanes at a time, so drivers should plan for delays during this time.

About the Project

The $173M El Camino Real roadway rehabilitation project will maintain El Camino Real as a safe, accessible, and reliable transportation corridor. The project encompasses repaving the road and upgrading sidewalks for enhanced mobility. It also aims to reduce localized flooding and improve visibility. This vital section of SR-82, traversing Burlingame, Hillsborough, San Mateo, and Millbrae, is also home to the historic The Howard-Ralston Eucalyptus Tree Rows which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The grove will be reinvigorated with the planting of many new trees.
