Students from Clarkson University's Construction Engineering Management Consulting Group (C3G), on behalf of St. Lawrence County, invites all interested community members to attend a second Community Input Session on June 18, 2026, at 5:30 p.m. at St. Lawrence Central School, 1039 NY-11C, Brasher Falls, NY 13613. Check-in will begin at 5:00 p.m.
Those unable to attend in person may participate virtually via Zoom.
During the session, attendees will hear project updates, ask questions, share feedback, and help shape the future of St. Lawrence County's multi-use trail system.
At the request of St. Lawrence County, Clarkson University is conducting a comprehensive assessment of the County's Multi-Use Trail System to better understand existing conditions, identify opportunities for improvement, and support future planning efforts. The trail network serves as an important recreational, tourism, and economic asset for communities throughout the region.
Students from Clarkson University's Construction Engineering Management Consulting Group (C3G) have partnered with the County to evaluate the trail system through field surveying, data collection, mapping, and stakeholder engagement. The project seeks to provide a clearer understanding of the trail network and inform future decisions related to management, accessibility, safety, and community connectivity. Throughout the assessment, the team has utilized technologies such as drones and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to develop a more detailed and accurate map of the trail system.
Given the multi-year nature of this effort, each year provides a new group of students with valuable hands-on learning opportunities. Michele LaTour, a rising junior in Civil Engineering with a concentration in Construction Engineering Management at Clarkson University, has assumed leadership of the initiative as Project Manager. She is joined by Kuda Anderson, a master's student in Data Science at Clarkson, who serves as lead analyst for survey response data.
Working under the supervision of Erik Backus, Director of Clarkson's Construction Engineering Management Program, and William Olsen, Professor of Practice and GIS Coordinator, the C3G team is compiling research, mapping data, and community feedback to support future planning decisions for the trail system.
Since the release of the trail survey in February, the team has received more than 500 responses from trail users and area residents. However, the team continues to seek additional participation. Responses received to date have highlighted the importance of trail maintenance, safety, accessibility, signage, and connectivity between trails and local communities.
The survey will remain open through mid-July and will provide valuable insight into how the trail system is used and where residents and visitors see opportunities for improvement.
The first public input session, hosted by C3G at Colton-Pierrepont Central School District on February 26, 2026, demonstrated strong community support for the trail system and emphasized its value as a recreational, tourism, and economic asset. The upcoming session will provide another opportunity for residents, trail users, and non-users alike to share their perspectives and contribute information that will help inform the overall assessment.
The Clarkson Construction Engineering Management Consulting Group (C3G) is an in-house Clarkson University team that provides pre-professional consulting services in planning, engineering, and construction. The enterprise is staffed by Clarkson undergraduate and graduate students and supervised by faculty from Clarkson's Construction Engineering Management program.
