NEW INFLATION DATA: Prices Skyrocket To Record Highs Due to Trump’s War With Iran Arrow

Trump's inflation has eaten up Americans' wages

Today, the Bureau of Labor Statistics released the Consumer Price Index report for May 2026, showing inflation surged to 4.2% year over year, the highest in three years. Donald Trump's unpopular war of choice with Iran has pushed up fuel prices - energy prices jumped 23.5% and gas prices rose 40.5%, which has in turn increased the cost of shelter, groceries, and transportation. On top of that, inflation is outpacing wage growth, which is at a five-year low, forcing Americans to watch their earnings disappear before their eyes in Trump's failing economy.

The average U.S. household has spent an additional $450 on rising energy costs due to Trump's war with Iran - nearly $60 billion in total extra costs. Meanwhile, U.S.-based employers cut 97,000 jobs this past month, a number that hasn't been seen in the month of May since the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, consumer sentiment dropped to its lowest point on record as families struggle to meet their basic needs.

In response, DNC Rapid Response Director Kendall Witmer released the following statement:

"Donald Trump's disastrous economic agenda and deadly and costly war with Iran have made life unbearable for millions of Americans. Working families are shouldering skyrocketing costs for basic goods, with their wages being eaten up by Trump's soaring inflation. On the campaign trail, Trump promised to 'defeat inflation,' and to lower costs on 'Day One,' but two years later, Trump can't get a handle on his war of choice with Iran as he tanks the economy back home."

It's no surprise that 70% of Americans disapprove of Trump's handling of the economy, over 20 points higher than his highest disapproval during his first term. Plus, 77% of Americans - which includes a majority of Republicans - attribute the drastic rise in cost-of-living prices directly to Trump's policies.
