Rep. Brent Celebrates Nigerian Independence Day

COLUMBUS - State Rep. Juanita O. Brent (D-Cleveland) today celebrates Nigeria's Independence Day. Today marks the 64th anniversary of Nigeria's proclamation of independence from British colonial rule.

"Love your neighbor, as you would yourself. As a daughter of Nigerian immigrants, I want everyone to recognize the importance of welcoming our new Haitian neighbors in Springfield. My parents, much like many of the migrants in our communities, came to this country chasing the American dream, freedom, a chance to work for a better life.

This is why we cannot be quiet when we see bills like House Bill 666 that creates the hate filled predatory policing and targeting of immigrants that Republican leaders say is to protect their communities.

May our country continue to provide a better life for all immigrants who choose to make this their new home."
