"The Jane Austen Playlist: Love and Music of Regency England," a collection of narrated vignettes from Austen's six published novels paired with the music contained in the Austen Family Music Books, will be presented by Laura Klein at 7:30 p.m., Feb. 13, at the Ware Center for the Arts.
Tickets are $22 for adults and $15 for students. To purchase tickets, visit https://www.artsmu.com, call 717-871-7600, or visit the Ware Center for the Arts, 42 N. Prince St., Lancaster, or the Student Memorial Center box office on the Millersville University campus.
From scenes of humor and charm to moments of reflection and melancholy, Austen's words are brought to life like never before through the music that she herself played and sang. The fully staged production incorporates a cast of narrators, singers, and instrumentalists on a stage that depicts an 18th-century drawing room.
A Jane Austen scholar, Klein founded "The Jane Austen Playlist" in 2019, combining her lifelong zeal for 18th-century music and all things Jane. Her scholarship on the music contained in the Austen Family Music Books is gaining increasing attention, resulting in performances and lectures around the globe. In addition to her research on the scores themselves, she also examines their impact on Austen's literary output through historical, ethnographic and performance practice considerations. Last year, she was a second-time recipient of the J. D. Ogilvy Travel Fellowship Award through the Center for British and Irish Studies at The University of Colorado Boulder. She was also a Visiting Research Fellow for the Blackie House Library and Museum in Edinburgh this past summer.
The Ware Center for the Arts strives to make performances accessible to all patrons. Specific accessibility services available at this performance include sensory-friendly accommodations. For more information, contact Barry Kornhauser at [email protected].
