City of Cleveland Activates Cooling Center Operations in Anticipation of High Temperatures

CLEVELAND - June 10, 2026 - The City of Cleveland, Department of Public Works will extend the hours of several Neighborhood Resource and Recreation Centers (NRCC) to serve as cooling centers for Cleveland residents that are seeking shelter from the warm temperatures expected in the coming days.

Dates of service:

  • Wednesday, June 10, 2026
  • Thursday, June 11, 2026

Time:

  • 11:30 a.m. - 10:00 p.m.

Locations:

  • Zelma George NRCC: 3155 Martin L. King Blvd.
  • Collinwood NRCC: 16300 Lakeshore Blvd.
  • Gunning NRCC: 16700 Puritas Ave.
  • Kovacic NRCC: 6250 St. Clair Ave.
  • Frederick Douglass NRCC: 15401 Miles Ave.

Each site will have comfort areas for residents and filtered water fountains.

Additional Information:

  • Breakfast meals are available from 10:00 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. at Zelma George NRCC, Lonnie Burten NRCC, Halloran NRCC, Glenville NRCC, Frederick Douglass NRCC, Estabrook NRCC, and Kovacic NRCC.
    • All recreation centers will serve lunch meals to youth 18 and under from 12:00 p.m. - 2:30p.m. Monday through Friday. Please contact your local NRCC for the serving times.
    • All available spray parks / basins will be in operation any day of the week when the temperature is 80 degrees or higher.
    • Playground programs and youth outdoor sports are cancelled.
    • All available outdoor pools are open from 12:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
    • Select indoor pools are available from 12:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.

Admission to all City pools and access to the full range of the City's Summer Programming is completely free. Residents are encouraged to participate in these programs, which include a diverse array of activities in the areas of art, education, sports, health and wellness, leadership, and career readiness.
