Elavon Introduces Simplified Process for Public Sector Merchants to Accept American Express | Elavon Online Newsroom

Elavon announced today that it has launched a more integrated payment approach for public sector entities, including local and state government agencies, to accept American Express® Cards. This approach will enable Elavon, a global payments leader that simplifies how businesses and organizations accept payments, to provide significant efficiencies for public sector clients, and enable community members to use American Express to pay for services, including public utilities, education fees, taxes, parking tickets, as well as purchases at public parks, pools, golf courses and more.

Public sector entities are often large, multi-layered organizations that need a simplified payment and reconciliation experience. Previously through Elavon, public sector customers received separate deposits and a different statement and servicing for American Express acceptance. Now, Elavon will offer:

  • One combined payment - all-inclusive deposits from all the Card brands they accept, rather than separate deposits from each payment network.
  • One statement - one consolidated statement for all payment types that simplifies reconciliation and related back-office tasks.
  • Seamless customer experience - consumers can pay with their card of choice, improving the experience for constituents.
  • Dedicated servicing - Elavon's team with government-specific payment expertise will offer dedicated servicing for public sector entities accepting American Express.

"American Express is continuing to expand the number of places our Card Members can use their cards, and merchants in the public sector are among our focus areas," said Kathleen Fiorello, Vice President and General Manager, Small Merchant Acquisition at American Express. "We're pleased to partner with Elavon to deliver a simple, streamlined way for public sector entities to accept payments from their constituents who use American Express Cards."

"Elavon is committed to providing the best payments experience to our customers and partners today and every day," said Marlen Prato, Head of Strategic Markets - Public Sector, Elavon. "The new approach will make it simpler for public sector entities to accept American Express, resulting in more choice for their citizens."
