Warren: After Meeting With Warsh, I Have "New Concerns" With His Nomination

Washington, D.C. - Today, U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), Ranking Member of the Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee, spoke with reporters after a meeting she held with Kevin Warsh, President Trump's nominee to be Chair of the Federal Reserve. Earlier today, Ranking Member Warren and all eleven Banking Committee Democrats reiterated their unified call in a letter to Chairman Tim Scott that there should be no hearing or votes on President Trump's Fed nominee until after the pretextual criminal investigations involving Chair Powell and Governor Cook have been closed.

Below are Ranking Member Warren's opening remarks to press:

"I just met with Kevin Warsh, who is Donald Trump's nominee to be Chairman of the Federal Reserve. And I still have deep concerns that if he is confirmed, he will be Donald Trump's sock puppet. But following this meeting, I have additional concerns.

"The first is that Mr. Warsh has not disclosed more than $100 million in assets, so that it's not possible to know his financial entanglements and where conflicts might arise, and ascertain if he gets rid of them.

"The second concern that I have is that his name appears in the Epstein files, and yet, he claims to have zero knowledge of anything related to this.

"My meeting with Mr. Warsh was followed by a meeting with the White House briefer on the FBI investigation into Mr. Warsh's background. And what I can say about that report is that I was told that the FBI made zero investigation into any of Mr. Warsh's financial holding including those that he is refusing to disclose and that they made zero investigation as to why [Mr. Warsh] appears in the publicly available Epstein files and whether he appears in other files that have not been made public."
