Greenberg Traurig Adds Six Preeminent Lawyers to Singapore Office, Bolstering Firm’s Presence in Asia

Singapore - Oct. 8, 2025 - Global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP continues to expand its capabilities and expertise in Southeast Asia with the addition of six renowned lawyers to the firm's office in Singapore.

The new hires include a team led by Shareholder Jek Aun Long, a Chambers Band One investment funds lawyer who previously led the Asian investment funds practice at a firm with longstanding operations in Asia; Shareholders Benedict Tan and Joshua Heng; and Associate Melvin Ng. They handle significant matters throughout the region.

The Singapore office also is adding:

  • Stella Bae, Energy & Natural Resources shareholder, from Ashurst
  • Kyle Oh, Mergers & Acquisitions shareholder, from White & Case

"From the U.S. to Europe, from the Middle East to Asia, Greenberg Traurig has continued its strategic expansion in key markets, practices, and industries, which are critical to the future of the global economy," said Richard A. Rosenbaum, Executive Chairman of Greenberg Traurig. "The addition of Jek Aun, considered a pioneer, thought leader, and veteran by many in the Singapore fund management industry, and his team advances our global strategy of positioning top-notch specialists in prime locations to deliver sophisticated, business-minded solutions in the funds space and beyond. Moreover, Kyle further strengthens our M&A practice in Singapore, and Stella augments our already robust energy and infrastructure practice across Asia and the globe."

The Asia expansion has been key to Greenberg Traurig's global growth strategy focused on recruiting top local talent, empowering them on the ground, respecting local rules and markets, and encouraging collaborations across a unified global firm. Since opening an office in Shanghai in 2008, the firm has added offices in Seoul, Tokyo, and Singapore, creating a regional network of lawyers who can lead the complex, cross-border legal work required there.

"Demand for our services from clients and interest in our firm from outstanding lawyers at other preeminent firms has never been higher. As these two factors continue to grow across key markets, Greenberg Traurig is expanding our Asia team with additional lawyers who meet the firm's highest standards of excellence, innovation, and client service. We remain committed to recruiting top-tier talent whose skill, integrity, and entrepreneurial mindset align with our culture and the increasingly complex needs of our clients," said Richard A. Edlin, Vice Chair of Greenberg Traurig. "This investment in our people reflects not only the strength of our practice, but the continued momentum of Asia as a key driver of global economic growth - a region where our platform is increasingly active and essential to serving clients navigating a rapidly evolving business and political landscape. I cannot be prouder of what we have already achieved in Asia or more excited for our future as these outstanding new hires come on board."

The Singapore office launched in 2022, anchored by Joseph Kim and an all-star team of lawyers to inaugurate the firm's Asia Energy & Infrastructure Practice. The office continued to grow in 2024 by adding M&A capabilities. Now, with the addition of the investment funds team, the Singapore office can help clients take full advantage of Singapore's position as a critical hub for legal services and inbound and outbound investment activities. In 2024, the country ranked second in the world (behind only the United States) with more than $140 billion in foreign direct investment, according to the World Bank.

"What we're trying to do is build a truly full-service office here by looking at the mega-trends that are happening on the digital side and stitching it together with other offices," said Kim, Greenberg Traurig Singapore Managing Shareholder. "The Singapore team has the opportunity to do something unique with the Seoul and Tokyo offices, working together on cross-border issues that affect the entire region. And we're not done yet."

Jek Aun Long has been a leading investment funds lawyer in Singapore for nearly three decades, counseling a wide range of fund management companies on fund formation, structuring, fund registration, licensing, and marketing matters. He has advised on private and retail funds and listed funds, including private equity, venture capital, real estate, infrastructure, digital assets, private credit, hedge funds, mutual funds, and exchange traded funds (ETFs). Jek Aun has seen firsthand Singapore's unrelenting growth and will lead a versatile, multifaceted investment funds team to help clients capitalize on it. The dynamic team being put together was drawn to Greenberg Traurig because of its global resources across different practice areas, the way it empowers lawyers to forge their own path, and the firm's commitment to continue investing in Singapore and the broader Asian market.

"The growth plans, the investment plans, the entrepreneurial spirit - it shows the ambition the firm has, and we want to be part of that to serve our clients," Jek Aun said. "It's very exciting."
