Albany County District Attorney Lee C. Kindlon announced today that a 25-year-old man and his 26-year-old girlfriend have been charged in connection to an Albany shooting that took the life of Deshawne Brown.
Cire Gray was arraigned Monday in front of the Honorable Andra Ackerman on an indictment that charges him with Murder in the Second Degree, Manslaughter in the First Degree, Criminal Use of a Firearm in the First Degree, Criminal Use of a Firearm in the Second Degree, Criminal Possession of a Firearm, and two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree.
Gray's girlfriend, India Thomas, was arraigned on an indictment that charges her with Hindering Prosecution in the First Degree and Hindering Prosecution in the Second Degree.
On April 19 at around 7:10 p.m., Albany Police responded to the area of Myrtle Avenue and Grand Street for reports of a shooting. Officers found Brown, 36, on scene and suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was treated by the Albany Fire Department personnel and transported to Albany Medical Center Hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
The indictment alleges Gray intentionally shot Brown with an illegally possessed firearm and that Thomas rendered criminal assistance to Gray in the aftermath of the shooting when she drove him from away from the scene.
Gray pleaded not guilty and was remanded without bail to the custody of the Albany County Correctional Facility. Thomas pleaded not guilty and was released to the supervision of probation with an electronic monitoring device.
Assistant District Attorney Alyssa Congdon, Bureau Chief of the Special Victims Unit, is prosecuting the case.
ALL DEFENDANTS ARE PRESUMED INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN OTHERWISE.
