The Spindletop Boomtown Museum will commemorate the 124th anniversary of the historic Spindletop Oil Boom on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2025, with a free community event featuring live reenactments, music, food, and educational activities.
The celebration, scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., will highlight the 1901 discovery that launched Texas into the global oil industry and transformed the state's economy.
"This is a chance to reflect on a pivotal moment in Texas history and to share that legacy with the community," the museum said in a statement.
Planned activities include a reenactment of the iconic gusher that erupted more than a century ago, live music from the local dulcimer group Back Porch Friends, and presentations by historians and industry experts in the museum's Caroline Room. Attendees can also explore kid-friendly educational activities and sample food from local vendors, including Boomtown BBQ.
"This event brings history to life while fostering community and education," the museum said.
The museum, located at 5550 Jimmy Simmons Blvd., aims to make the celebration accessible to all. Admission is free, and the event is open to visitors of all ages.
