On May 12, 2026, on the occasion of the 97th birth anniversary of H.E. Dr. Sam Shafiishuna Nujoma, the Founding President of the Republic of Namibia, Ambassador Zhao Weiping, on behalf of the Chinese Embassy in Namibia, donated 400 copies of the Coffee Table Book of Dr. Sam Shafiishuna Nujoma to the Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture of Namibia. Hon. Dr. Sanet. L Steenkamp, Minister of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture, Hon. Dr. Nahas Angula, former Prime Minister, Minister and Chairperson of the Sam Nujoma Foundation, and Hon. Dr. Albert Kawana, former Minister of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security, attended the event.
In his remarks, Ambassador Zhao said that Dr. Sam Shafiishuna Nujoma was the beloved Founding President and Father of the Namibian nation, and he was also a highly respected old friend of the Chinese people. The donation on this meaningful occasion is an expression of our gratitude, and we will remember him forever as the symbol of China-Namibia friendship.
Minister Steenkamp said that the books will be distributed to school libraries across Namibia to help young people better understand the country's history and carry forward the spirit of its leaders. She thanked the Chinese Embassy for the donation and for its long-standing support for Namibia's education sector, noting that it fully demonstrates the shared commitment of both sides to promoting the development of cultural and educational undertakings.
