Frostburg State University Named Among Top Colleges in 2027 U.S. News Rankings

Frostburg State University has been recognized among the nation's top colleges and universities in the 2027 U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges rankings, earning the No. 10 spot for Best Value for In-State Students and tying for No. 20 among Top Public Schools in the Regional Universities North category.

These distinctions highlight Frostburg's commitment to providing students with an affordable, high-quality education as well as the opportunities and experiences they need to succeed. The University also ranked No. 76 among Regional Universities North, placing Frostburg among the leading institutions in the region and one of 12 Maryland institutions ranked in the top 100.

"Affordability is about more than the price of tuition," Robinson said. "It is about making sure students have access to the education, experiences, relationships and opportunities that allow them to graduate with momentum. We want our students to leave Frostburg knowing not only what they have learned, but what they can do with it."

Frostburg's No. 10 ranking for Best Value for In-State Students comes as the University continues to expand access to an FSU education across the region.

Beginning in fall 2027, Frostburg will extend in-state tuition eligibility to students from Pennsylvania and West Virginia, as well as select areas of New York, Ohio and Virginia. The initiative expands FSU's role as a regional university serving students throughout the Appalachian region and surrounding communities.

The University also offers a single tuition rate for online graduate programs regardless of a student's state of residence.

For more than 125 years, FSU has provided students with an education grounded in opportunity, connection and community. Today, the University is building on that legacy through its "Learning Locally. Leading Regionally." vision and strengthening connections among students, the University and the communities it serves.

"Talent is equally distributed, but opportunity is not," said FSU President Dr. Shadow JQ Robinson. "That is why Frostburg State matters. Our roots in these mountains run very deep, and we have an opportunity to build on everything generations of Bobcats have created while creating opportunities for today's students to discover what they are capable of, gain the experiences and skills they need to move forward and build a future that may have once seemed out of reach. This recognition is something our entire Bobcat community can be proud of."

The U.S. News rankings evaluate colleges and universities using measures that include graduation and retention rates, faculty resources, academic reputation, graduates' earnings, student debt and the performance of students who received federal Pell Grants. The 2027 rankings also introduced a new measure examining graduates' earnings within their specific fields of study.
