Celebrate Hispanic and Latino Heritage Month

At UAA, we're celebrating Hispanic and Latino Heritage Month from now until Oct. 15. As a university community we recognize the contributions and importance of Hispanic and Latin culture in Southcentral Alaska and across the nation.

The Hispanic and Latino communities are rich in culture, language, ethnicity, art, music, food, folklore and religion. While the U.S. Census Bureau initially coined the term Hispanic as a means of categorizing people who come from Spanish-speaking countries, the word Latino, Latina or Latinx specifically refers to those who come from Latin American countries.

There are many ways to celebrate Hispanic and Latino Heritage month and hope you take the opportunity to attend one of the following events and join us at the end of October for a Día de los Muertos celebration!
