Amo Statement on House Vote to Extend the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act

Washington, DC - TODAY, Congressman Gabe Amo (D-RI-01) issued the following statement after voting against House Republicans' attempts to reauthorize the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act:

"House Republicans once again failed to deliver necessary reforms that would protect Rhode Islanders' constitutional rights.

We can protect our national security without handing Trump's government a blank check to monitor Americans' most sensitive personal communications, but this bill falls short.

Without ironclad guardrails, the civil liberties of Americans are at risk. And given the Trump administration's record of disregarding constitutional protections, expanding surveillance powers is unacceptable. I voted no on handing Trump the authority to spy on Americans."
