Representatives of the EUDA and the Peruvian organisation DEVIDA are meeting in Lima this week under a joint project to develop a monitoring framework to capture cocaine-related environmental impacts (1). Understanding and addressing environmental impacts associated with drug markets is a strategic priority at both European and international level (2).
The project is the first of the EUDA's international targeted policy analyses (TPA), which are integral to the EUDA's wider international cooperation framework and geostrategic analysis services. The underlying goal of this type of analysis is to generate knowledge gains for both the partner country and the EU, thereby contributing to improved EU preparedness on drugs.
The current TPA has two main objectives:
Activities during the visit include interviews and focus groups with Peruvian stakeholders, the joint analysis of data, preparations for subsequent phases of the project and meetings with the EU delegation in Peru.
Today, the EUDA representative will meet the Executive President of DEVIDA, Carlos Figueroa, where they will discuss the organisations' joint work plan for 2025-27. The plan is associated with the Working Arrangement signed by the two bodies in June 2023. The above analysis will be a key activity in the work plan.
