Distinguished Membership is the highest honor awarded by ASCE, recognizing civil engineers who have made exceptional contributions to the profession. The distinction is reserved for ASCE Members and Fellows, with no more than 12 recipients inducted annually.
"Rudy was selected for exceptional lifetime achievements in geoenvironmental engineering, most notably for developing methods for the analysis, design, and evaluation of landfill waste containment systems; his decades of business leadership in the profession; and his impact as a mentor to younger professionals and students," Noel Pratt of ASCE said of this recognition.
Founded in 1852, ASCE is a leading provider of technical and professional conferences and continuing education, the world's largest publisher of civil engineering content, and an authoritative source for codes and standards that protect the public.
Rudy is a Senior Principal Engineer based in Georgia with more than 40 years of experience focused on geotechnical and geoenvironmental engineering; contaminated site, waterway, and sediment assessment and remediation; and solid, hazardous, and low-level radioactive waste disposal facility permitting and design. In addition, he served the firm as CEO for 20 years and as Chair of the Board of Directors for 14 years. He is currently Senior Vice President of Geosyntec.
Rudy has authored numerous papers, book chapters, and government reports, in addition to serving on the editorial boards of the ASCE Journal of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering, Geosynthetics International, and the International Journal of Geoengineering Case Histories. His awards include the Lifetime Achievement in Engineering Award from the Georgia Society of Professional Engineers, the ASCE's Terzaghi Lecture Award, and James R. Croes Medal, among others. Rudy is an elected member of the US National Academy of Engineering.
