The City of North Port invites residents and visitors to discover their inner citizen scientist during a self-guided hike for BioBlitz, taking place throughout the month of March.
In the month of March, participants are encouraged to explore the Myakkahatchee Creek Greenway Trail and natural areas throughout the City of North Port while documenting plants, insects and wildlife they encounter. This flexible, self-paced experience allows participants to explore nature on their own schedule while contributing valuable data to local conservation efforts.
Participants will use the free iNaturalist app to record their observations. Each submission helps build a scientific inventory of local species, supporting research and conservation initiatives focused on protecting biodiversity and pollinators within the community.
No special training or experience is required. Participants simply need a smartphone or camera and a sense of curiosity. BioBlitz is open to all ages and experience levels, making it a great opportunity for families, students, nature enthusiasts and first-time explorers to engage with nature in a meaningful way.
Participation is free, and the Myakkahatchee Creek Greenway Trail and City parks are open daily from sunrise to sunset.
