Assembly Certifies 2026 Regular Municipal Election, Elects Chair and Vice Chair

During tonight's Regular Assembly Meeting, the Anchorage Assembly voted unanimously to certify the 2026 Regular Municipal Election Results and welcomed new members as they were sworn into office:

• Assembly Member Sydney Scout was elected to represent District 1, North Anchorage, replacing Former Assembly Member Christopher Constant, who served the maximum-allowed three consecutive three-year terms.
• Assembly Member Donald Handeland was elected to represent District 2, Eagle River, Chugiak, and JBER, replacing Former Assembly Member Scott Myers who served one full three-year term.
• Assembly Member Janice Park was elected to represent District 4, Midtown, replacing Former Assembly Member Felix Rivera, who served the maximum-allowed three consecutive three-year terms. The Election Commission held a special meeting yesterday to produce a report of the recount results for the Assembly.

The three new members were joined in their swearing in by three members who were re-elected to their Assembly seats:

• Assembly Member Anna Brawley was re-elected to represent District 3, West Anchorage for a second term.
• Assembly Member George Martinez was re-elected to represent District 5, East Anchorage for a second term.
• Assembly Member Zac Johnson was re-elected to represent District 6, South Anchorage, Girdwood, and the Turnagain Arm for a second term​.

Upon being sworn into office, the new members cast their first votes in an election of Chair and Vice Chair by secret ballot per AMC 2.30.010.D2. Assembly Member Anna Brawley​ was elected to serve as Chair, with Assembly Member Daniel Volland as Vice Chair.
