Maloney: House Democrats Vote to Poison Our Wildlife

HARRISBURG - House Democrats last night voted unanimously to allow the dangerous herbicide glyphosate to be applied to state game lands with the surprising support of the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau and the Pennsylvania Game Commission, Rep. David Maloney (R-Berks) said. Bayer, which manufacturers glyphosate under the trade name Roundup, was recently ordered by a jury in Georgia to pay about $2.1 billion to a plaintiff agreeing that the company's Roundup weed killer caused his cancer. Health care professionals have also linked the chemical to Parkinson's disease and other neurological maladies. Maloney offered an amendment to a Democrat "Sunday hunting" bill prohibiting the use of glyphosate on state game lands. Democrats unanimously voted "no" on the measure. "Glyphosate is not only poison, but also pervasive once applied," Maloney said. "Laboratory tests have confirmed every type of Girl Scout cookie contains high levels of glyphosate. This means the flour and meal used to make the cookies were saturated with glyphosate and other types of pesticides. We are told it dissipates in the soil within two weeks, but it clearly stays in the crops and food we eat. "So, if these poisons have such an effect on humans, what about all our wildlife that consume GMO crops doused in poison? Has anyone thought the chemicals which can cripple a horse or dog, or cause cancer, might also do the same to wildlife? Remember, wildlife eats these crops dripping with recently applied chemicals," said Maloney.
