Mayor LaFrance announces Community Grant awardees

Each year, the mayor of the Municipality of Anchorage awards grants to local nonprofits who serve the community. This long-standing tradition provides support and recognition for organizations dedicated to addressing community needs.

This year, $312,431 was available for award, and 42 organizations were selected to receive a range of funding for projects that dovetail with Mayor LaFrance's priorities, including public safety, housing, and community preparedness. Projects include efforts to strengthen food security, to prevent domestic violence and sexual assault, resources for young people in the foster care system, emergency supplies for vulnerable seniors, gear for firefighters providing rescue in rain and snow on backcountry trails, and more. More than 90 organizations applied for funding this year.

"No one knows more about our community's needs than the people who live here," said Mayor Suzanne LaFrance. "I am constantly impressed by how much our community is willing to work, support, and invest in each other."

Recipients will be recognized at an award ceremony later this summer and will have full access to their funds once Municipal contract and payment processes are completed. Reports on the use of the grants will be due at the end of the year.
