Willkie served as fund counsel to LS Power, a leading development, investment and operating company focused on the North American power and energy infrastructure sector, in the formation and closing of LS Power Equity Partners VI (Fund VI). Fund VI closed with approximately $6 billion in total commitments, more than 50% above its $4 billion target and more than double the $2.7 billion raised by its predecessor, Fund V.
Launched in January 2026, Fund VI was significantly oversubscribed and fully allocated against its hard cap by July. The fund received strong support from existing investors and investment consultants and expanded LS Power's global investor base into new markets, attracting commitments from leading pension funds, insurance companies, sovereign wealth funds, asset managers, foundations, endowments, family offices and private wealth investors.
Fund VI will invest in assets, platforms and companies across renewables, conventional generation, energy storage, distributed energy resources and other critical energy infrastructure, drawing on LS Power's investment, development and operating capabilities. LS Power has already committed approximately $1.7 billion from Fund VI to investments associated with pending acquisitions of gas-fired generation assets from Constellation Energy that will form a 5-gigawatt platform across the Mid-Atlantic (PJM) and Texas (ERCOT) power markets.
The mandate builds on Willkie's representation of LS Power in the formation of its $2.7 billion Fund V, which closed in 2024.
Founded in 1990, LS Power has leading platforms across generation, transmission and energy expansion solutions. Across its flagship funds and other investment partnerships, LS Power has raised approximately $19.8 billion of equity commitments since inception.
The Willkie team was led by partners Giovanni Smedley and Walter Turturro and included partners Phillip Isom, Adam Turteltaub, Russell Pinilis, Caitlin Link, Benjamin Allensworth, Sarah Kessler, Alexander Ryan, Henrietta de Salis and Britt Mosman.
