3 March 2026, Hamburg - During his working visit to the Federal Republic of Germany, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi held a series of meetings in Hamburg with representatives of local authorities, the Chamber of Commerce, and the academic community.
Moldova's top diplomat met with the Head of Government of the federal state and First Mayor of Hamburg, Peter Tschentscher. Discussions focused on strengthening cooperation at regional level and identifying new opportunities for economic collaboration. The Republic of Moldova's European path was also addressed. Minister Mihai Popșoi noted that the EU candidate status confirms European partners' confidence in Moldova's ability to implement reforms and deliver on its commitments. In the current context, EU integration remains a strategic objective essential for the country's stability and development.
Economic cooperation was discussed during the meeting with the Chief Executive Officer of the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Malte Heyne, and member of the Executive Board Philip Koch. The interlocutors explored prospects for expanding trade and investment cooperation, as well as practical ways to facilitate Moldovan companies' access to the German market. Minister Mihai Popșoi highlighted the Republic of Moldova's openness to attracting German investment and encouraged the exploration of joint projects between business communities in the Republic of Moldova and Hamburg, including by strengthening platforms for bilateral economic dialogue.
The programme also included a visit to the College of Europe in Hamburg. Discussions underlined the role of academic dialogue and the exchange of expertise, as well as the importance of preparing the next generation of professionals in the spirit of European policies and values.
