Improvements at Canyon Ferry’s Hellgate Campground This Fall

HELENA, Mont. - The Bureau of Reclamation will begin improvements to Hellgate Campground and boat launch starting October 5, 2026. Reclamation will expand the existing water system throughout the campground, delivering water to camping loops A-D. Major construction is expected to last several weeks, with the campground and boat launch expected to remain closed until December 2026 to finish smaller components. Hellgate camping sites 1-10 will remain open and available for public use during the construction period. Reservoir access will be limited.

These closures will ensure public safety and work efficiency, and the improvements will greatly enhance the visitor experience. Campsites will reopen and an update will be posted on our website when the project is completed. Thank you for your understanding and please direct any questions to the contact listed above.
