A brand new hospital will be built on the existing Peel Health Campus site, as part of an exciting transformation that will deliver more beds and expanded clinical services to cater for the growing population in the region.
Following a site analysis and deliverability assessment by the Office of Major Infrastructure Delivery (OMID), a greenfields site was recommended.
As a result, a decision has been made to build a new facility on the vacant site next to the existing Peel Health Campus.
The new location will allow the hospital to be built faster, while minimising disruption to hospital services. It will also enable the existing facilities to be transformed into additional health services - such as aged care accommodation - in the future.
The ground floor includes an expanded 39-bay Emergency Department, a new imaging department and a Mental Health Emergency Centre with a separate public entry.
A new complex of operating theatres, a cancer treatment area and expanded outpatient services are included on level one.
Other additional services at the new hospital include a dedicated palliative care unit and new inpatient wards including a new High Dependency Unit.
The tender for main works will be released shortly, following detailed design and procurement. Construction is planned to commence in 2026.
Community mental health services will relocate to a new, purpose designed facility in Greenfields as part of the wider Peel Health Campus redevelopment.
The project will be funded through the Cook Government's new $1.5 billion Building Hospitals Fund with $37.7 million allocated to undertake detailed planning for the new hospital.
The investment brings the Cook Government's total health infrastructure commitment to $4.7 billion during this term of Government.
Major health projects already under construction include the $1.8 billion Women and Babies Hospital project and the $471.5 million Bunbury Health Campus redevelopment - the largest regional hospital building project in Western Australia's history.
In 2024 Peel Health Campus was returned to public hands by the State Labor government after being run by a private contractor for 11 years.
