Cancer affects not only patients, but it also affects friends, family, and caregivers. If the patient's prognosis is terminal, patients and their loved ones may also experience twilight grief, which is sometimes known as "pre-loss" or "living loss." Felicity Harper, Ph.D., clinical psychologist and member of the Supportive Oncology Multidisciplinary Team at Karmanos, explained why this grief occurs, the symptoms that might be noticeable in loved ones experiencing twilight grief and ways to cope.
