USDA Rural Development Participates in Homeownership Events in North Eastern North Carolina

(Tarboro, N.C., July 7, 2026) - Members of the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development North Carolina team celebrated two families' milestones of the American Dream of homeownership when they cut ribbons on their homes today.

The families partnered with USDA Rural Development utilizing the Single Family Housing Direct Home Loans program, also known as the Section 502 Direct Loan Program.

"Every ribbon we cut represents more than the completion of a house, it marks the beginning of a family's next chapter and the realization of the American Dream of homeownership," said USDA Rural Development North Carolina Single Family Housing Director William Kenney. "Through the Section 502 Direct Home Loan Program, USDA Rural Development is helping hardworking families achieve safe, affordable housing while strengthening rural communities across North Carolina. We are proud to partner with these homeowners and celebrate this important milestone with them."

The Section 502 Direct Loan Program assists low-and very-low-income applicants obtain decent, safe and sanitary housing in eligible rural areas by providing payment assistance to increase an applicant's repayment ability.

USDA Rural Development provides loans, grants and technical assistance to support economic development, infrastructure, and quality-of-life improvements in rural communities across North Carolina and the nation.
