City of West Hollywood Recognizes Emergency Preparedness Month with a Film Screening of ‘Quake Heroes’

The City of West Hollywood will recognize Emergency Preparedness Month with a free community screening of Quake Heroes, a motivational documentary that blends Hollywood storytelling with real-life heroism from the January 1994 Northridge earthquake. The film was created by the Statewide California Earthquake Center and RomaScope, with support from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and many sponsors, to inspire individual and community resilience.

The event will take place on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at the West Hollywood City Council Chambers/Public Meeting Room, located at 625 N. San Vicente Boulevard. The lobby will open at 10 a.m. with preparedness resources, and the film will begin at 10:30 a.m. The screening is approximately 60 minutes. RSVP is requested at https://QuakeHeroes.eventbrite.com.

National Preparedness Month is a nationwide campaign that raises awareness about the importance of planning ahead before disaster strikes. West Hollywood's screening of Quake Heroes will highlight this message while also equipping community members with the knowledge and resources needed to strengthen both personal and neighborhood preparedness.

In addition to the film, local community partners, such as the American Red Cross and Statewide California Earthquake Center, will host resource tables offering information, tips, and tools for emergency readiness. Attendees will be able to connect directly with organizations, learn practical steps to prepare for disasters and participate in a Q&A session immediately following the screening.

Following recognition of FEMA's National Preparedness Month in September, the City of West Hollywood will participate in the Great California ShakeOut Earthquake Drill on Thursday, October 16, 2025 at 10:16 a.m. The City encourages community members to join the more-than-eight-million participants who are registered for the drill throughout the state.
