SCO Secretary-General meets with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan
On April 21, 2026, a meeting was held in Astana between the Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Nurlan Yermekbayev and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Yermek Kosherbayev.
A substantive exchange of views took place on current issues of the international situation, the activities of the SCO, the prospects for its further development, and the strengthening of cooperation among member states.
Yermek Kosherbayev emphasized the Organization's role in advancing the regional agenda, as well as the significant contribution of its Secretariat to the development of multilateral cooperation in Eurasia.
He also spoke in favor of an active role for the SCO Secretariat as the main executive body of the Organization and welcomed the submission of proposals by the Secretariat for consideration by the SCO member states.
Nurlan Yermekbayev noted the active work of the Republic of Kazakhstan across all areas of the Organization's activities, which helps maintain close dialogue among the countries of the "SCO family."
The parties paid special attention to the upcoming Regional Environmental Summit in Astana, highlighting the importance of this platform for discussing sustainable development issues and expanding international cooperation in the field of environmental protection.
The Secretary-General invited the Minister of Foreign Affairs to visit the SCO Secretariat at a convenient time.
